Notre Dame Offer Was An "Honor And Privilege" For 2025 Running Back Gideon Davidson
The success recruiting and developing the running back position at Notre Dame is a testament to Deland McCullough and the rest of the Irish offensive staff. On Saturday, an offer was extended to yet another talented runner in 2025 Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian Academy standout Gideon Davidson.
The Virginia native has been a hot name on the recruiting trail thus far. This recent offer from the Irish was an opportunity that Davidson is incredibly appreciative of. He understands how special it is.
“So my initial thoughts when I received the offer were, wow Notre Dame just offered me, definitely excited,” Davidson told Irish Breakdown. “Also, I had several conversations with Dre Brown and Coach McCullough that went great. Then they told me Coach (Marcus) Freeman was going to call me and I was very excited to talk with him. Getting an offer to Notre Dame was such an honor and privilege.”
While he’s only a sophomore, Davidson’s popularity from the recruiting side of things continues to increase. Things are starting to get more and more hectic.
“It was pretty slow up until January, but it’s picked up these past two months,” said Davidson. It’s been really good overall though.
“There’s been a ton of different schools that are recruiting me pretty hard right now,” he continued. “A few are Colorado, Ohio State , Auburn, Clemson, Tennessee, and Georgia.”
It is a long way off until Davidson plans on making a commitment, but it is a good sign that he is already talking about setting up a visit to Notre Dame. When talking about Davidson’s criteria for picking a school, it’s pretty clear that the Irish check a lot of boxes.
“A few factors for me is a program that won’t just build me as a football player but also as a man in my spiritual life and build me to be the best man I can be,” Davidson explained. “Also I want to be part of a national championship, but ultimately just to be part of a team who loves to win. Academics is another big part in choosing the right school.”
The 6-0, 190-pound running back is currently rated as a consensus four-star recruit among every major recruiting platform. Davidson ranks as high as the No. 19 overall player and No. 1 running back in the 2025 recruiting class according to 247Sports. The On3 Industry Ranking also has him ranked as the No. 64 overall player and No. 10 running back in the class.
The Virginia native already boasts an incredibly impressive offer list for a sophomore standout. Some of the notable programs who have extended offers to Davidson includes the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, Miami, Tennessee, Oregon, Penn State, Auburn, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Iowa State, Louisville, Wake Forest and Colorado among others.
Davidson has been a known commodity for some time now. As a freshman at Liberty Christian in 2021, he rushed for 1,241 yards and 19 touchdowns on only 112 carries (11.1 yards per carry). The talented runner helped lead the team to a 13-1 record and an appearance in the Virginia Class 3 State Championship game.
The Virginia native was also a notable member of the school’s track and field program. He posted a personal best time of 10.69 seconds in the 100 meter dash. Davidson also posted a personal best time of 23.47 seconds in the 200 meter dash, had a long jump of 20’7”, as well as threw the shot put and ran the anchor leg for Virginia's Class 3 bronze-winning 4 x 100 relay team.
