Over the weekend, Notre Dame were hosts to some of the top 2025 and 2026 recruits to check out spring practice. One of the top players on campus was 2026 Knoxville (Tenn.) Webb School cornerback Shavar Young Jr., who came into the visit without an offer from the Irish.

That quickly changed during the visit, ending with Young being officially added to the 2026 cornerback board. It was a visit that both lived up, and exceeded the expectations for Young. Notre Dame certainly impressed.

"I had a great visit,” Young told Irish Breakdown. "I really enjoyed getting to see how the coaches handle practice and being a part of the meetings. You get to really see how the coaches teach.”

One of the biggest takeaways from the visit were the Irish coaches. They made a big impact on the  Tennessee native, both impressing with their coaching styles and overall pitch to Young.

"The coaches seem to have a good relationship with their players,” Young explained. "They aren’t afraid to ask questions and they really strive for them to be the best player they can be. They like the idea that I play offense and defense. Their pitch about life after football impressed me a lot. I was honored to receive an offer from a place like Notre Dame.”

From a playing and personal perspective, Notre Dame seems to mesh well with what makes Young special. They are a program that could have some stay power with him, providing just about everything that he is looking for.

"It matches up to what people say,” said Young. "Notre Dame has a rich history and you can tell. They develop cornerbacks at a very high level. Their value fits mine, to put your head down and go to work. You have to put the hard work in.”

Young is considered a four-star recruit by both On3 and Rivals. Both platforms rank him similarly, currently sitting as the No. 116 and No. 114 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class respectively. On the On3 Industry ranking, Young is pegged as the No. 130 overall player and No. 11 cornerback in the class.

It’s no surprise that several big time programs are already pursuing Young. Some of his top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Michigan, Florida, Oregon, Tennessee, Penn State, Ole Miss, Michigan State, Missouri, Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Colorado, Boston College, Purdue, SMU, Indiana and Vanderbilt among others.
