For the second time this off-season, 2025 Cleveland (Ohio) Heights defensive lineman Brandon Caesar will be traveling back to Notre Dame for the July 30th recruiting cookout. The Ohio native initially visited for the Blue-Gold Game, which was a great initial impression to the Irish program.

“Notre Dame is a beautiful place,” Caesar told Irish Breakdown. “We really enjoyed the visit for the spring game.

“For this trip, there’s going to be a lot of other recruits on campus so I’ll really be able to see how everyone is treated, see just how they feel about me and how I could fit in,” he added. “I have a lot of expectations for the trip.”

Caesar will be making the trip with Cleveland Heights head coach Mac Stephens, who has been a big help to him navigate the process. Relationships in general are big for Caesar. Al Washington has done a really nice job doing just that.

“The relationship has been great with Coach Washington,” he explained. “I remember the first time I talked to him, I was on my way to wrestling practice and I was getting the call from him. All my friends were clowning around and were like, “just tell him to call back later.” I had to tell them all to chill and let me take the call.

“He’s really a good person,” Caesar continued. “We’re getting close and getting to know each other well. He has made me feel like they want me bad at Notre Dame. It’s been great.”

Caesar has a unique expectation of the recruiting process. It has allowed him to navigate it effectively, but more than anything, listen.

“On the campuses, I just want to view the area and evaluate everything,” said Caesar. “I want to evaluate who I’m around, look at the body language and try to get into their heads. That will help me really understand if I fit there. I’m honestly not talking much on these trips. I’m just watching, listening and asking a question if it’s important.”

It may be a process but it’s one that Caesar is grateful for. Location is not going to be the deciding factor. Caesar is enjoying the chance to explore.

“Recruiting has been a full on blessing,” Caesar explained. “It’s just been great getting to have all these experiences and talk to some great people. It’s been really eye opening for me. There’s life outside of Cleveland and I’ve been able to experience a lot of it. I’ve kinda been able to venture out and experience these campuses. I want to get to know these people to really understand how I fit.”

The next venture will be getting back to South Bend. Notre Dame has shown Caesar love early on and intends to do it similarly on this upcoming visit.

Caesar has been courted by a host of top programs so far. Some of his premier offers thus far include the Fighting Irish, Alabama, Michigan, USC, Penn State, Tennessee, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Illinois, Purdue, Duke and Rutgers among several others.

The 6-4, 250-pound defensive lineman is one of the clear leaders for an extremely talented Cleveland Heights squad. They are coming off of a 10-2 overall record with a narrow 50-49 defeat to St. Ignatius in the playoffs.

He is reportedly up to 256 pounds this off-season, with added strength put on his frame. Add that into his volleyball and wrestling background, you have an impressive talent.
