Notre Dame Remains High On Cooper Perry Heading Into Ohio State Visit
A ton of talented recruits will be flocking to South Bend on September 23rd for Notre Dame’s matchup against Ohio State. One of the notable recruits expected is 2025 Scottsdale (Ariz.) Notre Dame Prep wide receiver Cooper Perry, who is one of the most productive pass catchers in the entire country.
With the 2023 season well underway, Perry has done his best to remain focused at the task at hand. It’s about being the player that Notre Dame Prep needs to win football games, and achieve their overall goals.
“I try not to focus on recruiting during the season,” Perry told Irish Breakdown. “I just focus on my main goal. I definitely want to bring a state title back to Notre Dame. We’ve been so close these last couple of years and hopefully this is the year.”
That still doesn’t change that a lot of impressive programs are pushing for Perry. He has been extended offers from the Fighting Irish, Oregon, Kentucky, Michigan State, UCLA, Utah, Washington, Houston, Arizona, Louisville, Wisconsin, Boston College, Cal, Kansas and Arizona State among others thus far.
Overall, there are a lot of schools that are making him feel wanted, which includes Notre Dame heading into this upcoming visit.
“Recruiting has been great,” said Perry “Being able to be recruited and seeing different atmospheres has been tremendous. Having a school and a coach who believes in you really means a lot. I have been able to see so many different places and crazy atmospheres.
“When I saw Notre Dame was playing Ohio State, that was a place I needed to be,” he added. “I’m definitely excited to see everything.”
The Arizona pass catcher has been building a tremendous relationship with Notre Dame. There have been multiple points of contact that have all made him feel wanted.
“They’re obviously one of the schools who have been reaching out the most,” Perry explained. “Carter Auman, he’s my guy and always has been. He gets me on the phone with Coach (Gerad) Parker, (Marcus) Freeman, (Chansi) Stuckey and Chad (Bowden) as well. They do a great job of it. They found me when I only had a couple of offers. They have been on me from the beginning.”
The minute Notre Dame offered Perry earlier this year, they were going to be a difficult school to beat. He has a very unique connection to the program with his grandfather having attended the school.
“My grandfather was a huge Notre Dame fan,” he explained. “He passed away when I was a kid so I can only imagine how he would have reacted to me being offered and recruited by them. Everyone in my family told me he would be looking down and smiling. He would have been so excited that I have that opportunity.”
If Notre Dame pushes hard for Perry, they will have a great opportunity in the end. This second visit to campus could go a long way to making Perry feel at home.
The rankings are also very promising for Perry. He ranks as a four-star by all of 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. The latter has Perry the highest, sitting as the No. 138 overall player and No. 18 wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class.
The 6-2, 190-pound pass catcher put together a dynamic season as a sophomore for Notre Dame Prep. He hauled in 78 receptions for 1,100 yards and 20 touchdowns. Perry also ran the ball six times for 81 yards and another score on the ground.
The Arizona native isn’t just a premier on the football field. He is also an incredible lacrosse talent, being selected as a two time Under Armour All-American selection.
