Notre Dame Safety Kennedy Urlacher Eyeing Big Senior Season
An important, yet not often talked about, member of the Notre Dame 2024 recruiting class is Chandler (Ariz.) High School safety Kennedy Urlacher. The Arizona native has now been committed to the Irish program for over two months, which was a big moment for Urlacher to finally get past the recruiting process and prepare for the season.
When you talk to any Notre Dame commit, one word is often talked about: family. There’s a bond that is hard to adequately quantify. It’s the relationships that really sell the place.
WHAT SOLD URLACHER
That is also true for Urlacher. There were plenty of notable programs that valued the standout defender but it was Notre Dame’s authenticity that really showed through.
In the past Urlacher was pretty adamant about the easy sell Notre Dame can give. “Not many can get big time football and a good education,” he said. “Really it was just a win-win situation for me.”
Thinking back on Urlacher's recruitment, his visit to the program on April 15th was really the final staff in attracting the Arizona standout. During that trip, he had the chance to really develop a deeper relationship with both the coaches and recruits.
"My relationship with Coach (Chris) O’Leary really improved over the official visit,” Urlacher told Irish Breakdown. "We spent a lot of time together, as well as meeting his family. Meeting the rest of the class really just improved everything in regards to making relationships with my future teammates. We all want the same thing, to help win a championship at Notre Dame.”
Since making his commitment, Urlacher has also seen those relationships with the other commits take on a deeper level. That group has remained a strong and unique group.
"The whole class stays in touch constantly, whether it’s individually or in the group chat,” he said. "We’re always communicating. We think we have something special being built.”
SENIOR YEAR RISE
From a talent perspective, there’s a lot to work with Urlacher. He’s fast, physical and an extremely hard worker. Add in his dad’s genes and there are expectations that he could experience a massive rise as a senior.
Urlacher has been workouts tremendously this off-season to take his game to the next level. He has a ton or goals, with high expectations for what his team can accomplish in 2023.
"During the off-season I’ve really just been doing a lot of stuff to help keep me injury free, as well as strength and foot work stuff to get ready for the season,” Urlacher explained. "It’s a big season for us. I’m excited to see everything we can accomplish.
"Some goals I have set for my senior season is to just dominate the competition all season, as well as help win a state championship,” he added. "There’s no question we have the talent. We need to take it one day at a time.”
Notre Dame fans will be waiting anxiously to see the jump that Urlacher could make in his final season. There is no question that the talented safety is putting the time in.
