Over the last two recruiting classes, Notre Dame has made a tremendous impact in the state of Texas, something that was a necessity under Marcus Freeman. Deland McCullough has also continued the recent success recruiting the running back position, putting that position’s future in very good hands.

In the 2025 recruiting class, the Irish staff has an opportunity to potentially kill two birds with one stone. Arguably the most dynamic runner on the board right now is Humble (Texas) Atascocita running back Tory Blaylock, who is a big play threat waiting to happen every time he touches the football.

During the open period, Notre Dame made the trip out to Atascocita to check in on Blaylock. So far, the staff is doing a tremendous job with the talented runner and should be expecting a visit in the somewhat near future.

"The relationship with Notre Dame has been good,” Blaylock told Irish Breakdown. "I'm looking forward to getting up there sometime soon. Coach McCullough is a great coach. I can't wait to meet the rest of the staff when I get up there.

“Notre Dame is a school that has a great head coach and a great running back coach,” he continued. "They also stand out academically and have a pretty good history with running backs.”

Blaylock is already considered to be one of the top running backs in the 2025 recruiting class. It should be no surprise that there is a lot of competition for his talent, although Notre Dame is doing its best to stand out right now.

"Some schools that have been showing the most interest are Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oregon, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, Texas and Wisconsin,” said Blaylock. "I’m excited for when we can start talking regularly.”

If Blaylock does follow through with a visit this summer, it’ll be a big momentum boost for the Irish. They have quietly done a really nice job early on in this recruitment.

The 5-10, 175-pound runner comes from an exceptional football family. His father, Derrick, played in the NFL from 2001-2007 after a standout career for Stephen F. Austin. He also has two brothers (Travian and Taylen), who both play safety for Wisconsin and Sam Houston State respectively.

Blaylock is also a standout track and field athlete for Atascocita. The Texas speedster posted a personal best time of 10.7 in the 100-meter dash as a freshman, which is impressive for a player that age. He did not participate in the short sprints as a sophomore.

He is already considered one of the top running backs in the 2025 recruiting class. The Texas native ranks as high as the No. 83 overall player and No. 2 running back in the class according to Rivals. That ranking also has him pegged as the No. 16 player in the state of Texas.

The standout running back already boasts an impressive offer list. Some of the notable programs that have extended an offer include the Irish, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma, Penn State, Florida State, Oregon, Tennessee, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Michigan State, Baylor, Arizona State, Texas Tech, Duke and Missouri among others.
