Utah Safety Davis Andrews Sets Notre Dame Visit, Closing In On A Decision Date
Notre Dame still isn’t done recruiting safeties in the 2024 recruiting class, but the last one on the board is a bit different. Notre Dame is still extremely high on American Fork (Utah) High School star Davis Andrews, even though he plans to take a two-year Mormon mission upon graduating from high school. Andrews is set to return to Notre Dame for one final visit before he makes his college decision.
Andrews announced his final six schools earlier this off-season, which included Notre Dame. Also on the list was Tennessee, UCLA, Utah, BYU and Stanford. Andrews has made the rounds on official visits, including UCLA (May 26-28), Notre Dame (June 6-8), Utah (June 9-11) and BYU (June 23-25).
According to Andrews’ father, Rob Andrews, the family is planning on heading out to Notre Dame one last time on July 30th for the recruiting cookout. That is going to be one final step to cementing all their thoughts and helping Davis come to a decision.
"Davis is doing great,” said Andrews. "He reports (for fall camp) next Tuesday and it’s go time. We’re heading to South Bend for the barbecue at the end of the month. It will be a good opportunity before he makes his announcement.”
While the exact date hasn’t been set, the feeling is that we will know quickly after that trip at the end of the month.
"We’re not sure when he’s going to announce but he’s not in a rush,” Andrews explained. "The cookout is a really good opportunity to be with coaches and 2024, 2025 and 2026 recruits.”
Going down the stretch, Notre Dame appears to be in tremendous shape. It’s closing time now, which will be a big part of the visit on the 30th.
Despite some weirdly low rankings, Andrews has heard from a lot of top schools. Some of the notable programs who have offered so far include the Irish, Tennessee, UCLA, Utah, Stanford, Arizona, Colorado, Washington State, Northwestern, Cal and BYU among others.
The 6-2, 190-pound athlete was a playmaker on the back end of the defense for American Fork. In twelve games, he recorded 45 total tackles, intercepted four passes, had three forced fumbles and recovered another.
