During Notre Dame’s evaluation camp last week, several notable recruits made their travels to South Bend. Among the offered 2025 recruits on campus, Richmond (Va.) Huguenot defensive lineman Samuel Cohen made his first trip to the campus.

Cohen left the event making a big impression on the Irish staff. The practice time on the field was a big chance to build their relationship, get better as a player and really thoroughly understand the expectations of playing for Al Washington.

“The experience at the camp was amazing,” Cohen explained. “It was really great to be coached by one of the best defensive line coaches in the country. It was different in a really good way. I enjoyed learning new drills and new techniques to help make me a great player.”

The rest of the trip was dedicated to exploring the campus and spending time with the coaches. Marcus Freeman was even able to parlay some much appreciated wisdom on Cohen.

“The visit in general was amazing,” Cohen stated. “Everybody was kind and welcoming. It gave me a good overall vibe and perspective into being a part of the Notre Dame program.

“I loved the advice that Coach Freeman gave me,” he continued. “He really explained detail by detail about how college is more than just football. He explained how academics is such an important thing for college life and for afterwards.”

Cohen does bring an interesting skill set to the table. Although he is listed as a defensive end currently, Notre Dame actually sees a fit on the inside long term potentially.

“Coach Washington sees me fitting in as a three technique into their defense,” Cohen stated. “He sees me as a really quick and twitchy athlete who can make a lot of plays on the inside.”

Getting Cohen on campus for the first time is a great early step. So far the Irish staff has made him feel wanted, with interest continuing to grow following the visit.

The offer list continues to expand for Cohen. So far some of the notable programs who have offered the Virginia star include Notre Dame, Georgia, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Boston College among others.
