Wide Receiver Quincy Porter Is "Once In A Lifetime" Talent
Notre Dame has had some outstanding players from the state of New Jersey in the past, including names like Quenton Nelson, Joe Theisman, Anthony Fasano, Elijah Shumate, Bennett Jackson and Audric Estime. The Irish staff has also frequented the Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic pipeline recently, signing quarterback Steve Angeli and defensive back Jayden Bellamy in the 2022 recruiting class.
In the 2025 class, Notre Dame is hoping to tap into that talent pool again with star wide receiver Quincy Porter. According to Porter’s wide receiver coach Ron Carti, this kid isn’t your typical standout pass catcher.
"He’s a once in a lifetime type of kid,” Carti told Irish Breakdown. "Of course, he’s a freak athlete. That kid is like Calvin Johnson. He’s special but it’s the little things that really make Quincy special.
"He is so self aware and is always pushing to get better,” Carti continued. "Even on good reps, touchdowns, he comes back and asks what he can do better. I’ve never had a better blocker at the wide receiver position. He really cares about his craft. Quincy wants to be the best version of himself each and every day.”
This is a program that is used to putting out high level talent. Bergen Catholic continuously pumps out top guys to the highest level each and every year, including nine FBS players in the 2023 class. Even with that track record, Porter is still special.
"I’ve had an All-County wide receiver for 15 straight seasons, the only school to do that,” said Carti. "Quincy is the best one. You don’t find kids who are driven with him who are also that talented. It’s really something to appreciate.”
As for his recruitment, things are just getting started. Porter has an outstanding supporting cast and is doing his due diligence to find the right fit.
"Quincy is open,” he explained. "He’s trimmed down his list a bit but he wants to really give all of the programs and coaches a chance to impress. He’s looking to find the right fit for him and to be challenged. There’s a drive in him unlike anything I’ve ever seen.”
A good early sign, Notre Dame is one of the schools that made that cut. They are standing out in a big way.
"He really likes Notre Dame,” Carti said. "Just knowing Quincy as a person, I do think he would fit really well up there. He could play for any team in the country so I think he could fit anywhere as a player but as a person, Notre Dame does align well with him.”
Porter is considered a four-star recruit, and near top 100 consensus player, in the 2025 recruiting class. The New Jersey native ranks highest on the ESPN recruiting ranking, sitting as the No. 77 overall player and No. 4 wide receiver in the 2025 class.
The 6-3, 190-pound pass catcher is being pursued by some of the top programs in all of college football. Some of his premier offers so far include Notre Dame, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Florida, Oregon, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan State, South Carolina, Minnesota, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Duke, Syracuse and Rutgers among several others.
As a sophomore, Porter quickly became the go-to wide receiver for the Bergen Catholic program. He led the squad with 34 receptions for 682 yards and 10 touchdowns. That’s good for 20.1 yards per reception, evidence of his big play ability.
Porter also chipped in with two interceptions in limited snaps on the defensive side of the football.
