Notre Dame Working Hard To Get Texas Linebacker Elijah Barnes On Campus
The state of Texas has been incredibly good to the Notre Dame program over the last two cycles. They hope to continue that momentum into the 2025 recruiting class with a deep pool of talented players on the board.
Arguably the most gifted member of the recruiting board is talented Dallas (Texas) Skyline linebacker Elijah Barnes. The dynamic second level defender is already being pursued by some of the blue blood programs in college football. The Irish program has fortunately been one of the standouts thus far.
"A couple of schools like Notre Dame, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, as well as a couple other schools around the country,” Barnes said of his top early schools. "They’ve been definitely standing out so far.
"My recruiting has been great overall,” he continued. "You know I’m just thankful for this opportunity I’m getting in life and I’m just grateful visits are coming up. I’m trying to get up to South Bend as well.”
There is one coach in particular who has been setting the Irish program apart for Barnes. The effort going on behind the scenes is notable.
"My relationship with Coach (Al) Golden has been great,” he stated. "He tries to hit me up like once a week. He also tries to get me on the phone and is trying to get me up there. You can tell he’s really trying and putting in the effort.”
Getting Barnes up to South Bend is a big step for this recruitment. There is no question that there is a high level or intrigue so far. They must now turn that into substantial interest.
The 6-2, 210-pound linebacker plays on a less than stellar Skyline team but pops on film immediately. He is an outstanding athlete who promises to continue to blow up on the recruiting trail.
Barnes is currently rated as a four-star recruit by On3, 247Sports and Rivals. 247Sports currently has him rated the highest, sitting as the No. 92 overall player and No. 13 linebacker in the 2025 recruiting class. They also have Barnes rated as the No. 10 player in the state of Texas, a state that Notre Dame is making a large impact in under Marcus Freeman.
From an offer perspective, Barnes is beginning to really blow up. Some of the notable programs who have extended offers include Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, USC, LSU, Ohio State, Florida State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Oregon, Nebraska, TCU, Michigan State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Texas Tech, Stanford, Missouri, Colorado and Kansas among others.
