Notre Dame Working To Impress California Cornerback Daryus Dixson
Notre Dame is targeting several standout 2025 recruits from powerhouse Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei, including a pair of cornerbacks. The Irish staff is prioritizing standout cover men Chuck McDonald III and classmate Daryus Dixson.
With college programs being in a dead period and with contact being limited, Dixson is taking advantage to work on a visit schedule over the next several months. Notre Dame and Dixson have yet to figure out a date to get him on campus, but they are working to make it happen.
"Everything has been very good, just training and getting ready for a big season,” Dixson told Irish Breakdown. “Unfortunately there is a certain date I got to wait on so the coaches can contact me but it’s going good. I have some visits already lined up but they are not confirmed just yet.
"I would say Tennessee, Oregon, Maryland, Ohio State, Penn State, and USC are the schools that have been doing the best job so far,” he added. "That will obviously change once the dead period lifts and I start talking to a lot of coaches.”
Although Notre Dame seems to be working from the back, they do seem to have made a solid early impression on Dixson. Mike Mickens has made an impact without question.
"My relationship with Notre Dame is really good,” Dixson explained. "What stands out is (I) can talk about anything with Coach Mickens, he is a really cool guy. It’s not rehearsed or unnatural. He’s just really genuine.”
As for the sell of Irish program, it’s a two-fold pitch
"The Notre Dame academic side of the university is what I like,” he said. "I am a top guy that they want and I really feel the love from them when we have conversations. There’s no question that they want me to be Irish.”
Dixson is rated as a four-star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN and Rivals. Each of those platforms have the Mater Dei star ranked as a Top 100 player nationally, peaking as the No. 40 overall player and No. 5 cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class on the 247Sports ranking.
The 6-1, 180-pound defensive back has an offer list to match his high rating. Some of Dixson’s notable offers so far include Notre Dame, USC, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, Penn State, Miami, Oregon, Texas A&M, Auburn, Colorado, Ole Miss, Washington, Utah, Michigan State, UCLA, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona Stats, Boston College and Cal among others.
As a sophomore, Dixson assumed a starting role for one of the more talented defensive units in all of high school football. He recorded 37 total tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakups for the Monarchs.
