Notre Dame Makes A Move With Talented Cornerback Trystan Haynes
Notre Dame hosted several big time recruits over the weekend, including Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert star cornerback Trystan Haynes, who made his first trip to South Bend. Heading into the visit, Haynes was on the short list of cornerbacks left on the board for the Irish. Things had quietly been trending in a good direction with the Oklahoma standout. Coming out of the visit, it isn’t too quiet.
"I enjoyed the visit a lot,” Haynes told Irish Breakdown. "Meeting some of the commits and players, as well as feeling the atmosphere was different for sure. It’s a feeling that’s kind of hard to explain. I had a great time meeting the coaches and seeing how they coached in person. I had really good conversations with all of them. Everyone was really impressive.”
If you have watched Haynes film, you know how impressive of a player he is. Playing both wide receiver and cornerback at a high level, Haynes' natural athleticism and physicality really pop. He was impressed being able to see the team in action on Saturday.
"Just seeing how the defense was competing throughout the practice was awesome,” he said. "Taking everything personal is something I loved to watch, as I'm very similar just by nature.”
For Haynes, he is busy visiting schools and evaluating his finalists down the stretch. He is still planning on taking official visits and then making a decision. There is a very good chance that Haynes is going to make his way back to South Bend before a decision is made, although an exact date is still being worked out.
“Notre Dame is definitely a school that I like a lot,” Haynes said. “I can’t wait to get back down again for an official visit. They are a school high on my list.”
Haynes has put together an absolutely sensational offer list, being courted by some of the best programs in all of college football. The 6-2, 160-pound cover man is considered a consensus four-star and top 250 national recruit by every major recruiting platform. Haynes ranks highest by 247Sports, currently sitting as the No. 119 overall player and No. 12 cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class.
The Oklahoma native was a two-way star for the Carl Albert Titans as a junior. In 14 games, Haynes recorded 51 total tackles, three interceptions and seven pass breakups. He also recorded four tackles for loss and three forced fumbles as well.
As if his defensive contributions weren’t enough, Haynes was also outstanding as a wide receiver in 2023. He led the team with 1,009 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on 45 receptions, averaging an impressive 22.4 yards per reception. Haynes did all that while also returning kicks and punts for the team.
