The Notre Dame staff has been on the road a ton recently, including two stops to check in on elite 2024 wide receiver commit Cam Williams. That includes Gerad Parker and Chad Bowden swinging by Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South earlier in the week. Bowden and Marcus Freeman also went in-home on Friday to spend some time with the Williams’ family.

So close to National Signing Day and the holidays, it’s always great to see the coaches get to spend time with the recruits and their families. It was certainly a great experience, according to Williams.

"It was a nice and chill visit,” Williams told Irish Breakdown. "It was great to see the guys, like always. We had some good conversations and a lot of great moments. My family really had a great experience. The staff has always been great to us all.”

A part of the conversations and laughs, the family and coaches also had the chance to sit down for dinner. When the food arrived, the coaches expected a good slice of pizza. The Williams family decided to surprise them with a unique flavor profile.

"We just got some Chi Town area pizza,” said Williams. "But in our house, we put Italian beef and Giardiniera on it so they got a kick out of that.”

What is Giardiniera you ask? Apparently, they are pickled vegetables in vinegar and oil, which is an Italian staple. Regardless, it isn’t an ordinary topping for a slice of pizza but by all indications, the staff enjoyed this Williams’ family “concoction.”

We are now only a little over a week from National Signing Day. This in-home visit serves as one of the last checkpoints to getting each one of these players ready to sign. Compared to this time last year, the Notre Dame 2024 class doesn’t have much drama or threat of decommitments. It is a welcome sight for those who follow recruiting closely.

"There isn’t any drama,” Williams said. "I’d say we have a solid core overall. I don’t see anyone leaving.”
