Offensive Lineman Kage Payne Ready For Full Notre Dame Experience
Notre Dame is set for a massive recruiting weekend against Ohio State. The game is attracting upwards of 40 recruits, including several 2025 players that Notre Dame is keeping a close eye on. Despite not currently holding an offer from the Irish, Kings Mills (Ohio) High School offensive lineman Kage Payne is an extremely interesting player making his first visit.
Payne has been extremely complimentary of the Notre Dame program coming into this weekend. The thing he admires most is the honesty, and willingness to let him know areas of improvement that are needed.
"You know my relationship with Notre Dame has been good,” Payne explained. "They tell me what I need to hear and not what I want to hear. They tell me what I need to improve on and what they do and don’t like about me. Every time I see them I just have the biggest smile on my face and am so happy.”
The expectations for this visit are high. Of course Payne is excited to see the coaches in person but he’s also anxious to see a great result on the field.
"I’m most looking forward to seeing all the coaches, especially my guys Caleb Davis and Coach (Marcus) Freeman,” he said. "I’m also excited to see my big bro Jaylen Sneed and hopefully he steps up and plays a big role. It’s going be an awesome game and I’m confident that I’m gonna see an Irish win!”
So far Payne has been hearing from a host of schools on the recruiting side. As a 2025 recruit, those conversations are just beginning. He’s excited for those relationships to develop a lot deeper.
"Recruiting has been going pretty good but I’ve been trying to stay focused on our season and be a great leader for my teammates,” he said. "I’ve been talking to a lot of schools and coaches. I’ve been talking to Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Ohio, Toledo and more recently.”
With this being Payne’s first taste of the Notre Dame program, this promises to be a great weekend. It will be interesting to see how much he blows up moving forward on the recruiting side.
Payne has seen more and more attention from the recruiting side recently. The 6-3, 280-pound offensive lineman currently holds ten scholarship offers. Right now Memphis, Coastal Carolina, Florida Atlantic, James Madison, Toledo, Ohio, Miami (Ohio), Arkansas State, Bowling Green and UMass are the schools who have offered.
