One of the top performers at the Irish Invasion a few weeks ago was 2025 New Rochelle (N.Y.) Iona Prep offensive tackle Rowan Byrne, who has quickly become a favorite of the Notre Dame coaching staff. Following the event, Byrne was offered by the Irish, which the New York native called his “dream school” at the time.

Byrne has not backed off that praise of the Notre Dame program. It’s the full scope of what the program can provide for Byrne, bringing everything an offensive lineman needs to succeed.

"Notre Dame stands out and always will for me,” Byrne told Irish Breakdown. "They have the education, the degree, the football and offensive line tradition that is unmatched. Those are going to mean a lot to a lot of recruits and I absolutely love the school.”

Although he may be new to the offer board, Byrne and the staff have been building a relationship for several months. Those bonds have grown exponentially since being offered. The Irish program is already checking a lot of boxes for the talented offensive lineman.

"My relationship has been developing super well with Notre Dame and the staff,” Byrne explained. "I’m continuing to stay very close with Coach (Joe) Rudolph. We connected really well and worked great in camp. The thing that stands out most with him for me is how well we worked together and how close of a relationship we’ve developed in a very short amount of time. Those are two very, very important things to me in my recruitment and stand out greatly.”

Notre Dame’s message is also clear. South Bend is a place where Byrne can thrive.

"The message to me from the staff is how well I would fit into Notre Dame and their program and the offensive line,” he said. "The coaches feel like after spending time with me over a couple days and having gotten to know each other over a few months. They feel like I’m a Notre Dame guy, someone who is meant to be a part of the program and culture at Notre Dame.”

Of course anytime you have a massive offensive tackle with a mean streak, they are going to be heavily valued. There is sure to be a lot of competition for Byrne.

"Recruiting is going great as of late,” Byrne explained. "I’m looking to hit Texas A&M and Michigan the weekend of July 29th, then I’d like to go to the Ohio State versus Notre Dame game and the Ohio State versus Wisconsin game. That’s my plan for visits in the coming months as of right now.

"I would say Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Penn State have been recruiting me the best and hardest recently,” he added. "They each have shown a lot of interest.”

Early on, this one looks like Notre Dame’s recruitment to lose. Byrne fully understands everything that the program brings to the table, and he looks like the perfect offensive lineman to continue the great tradition up front.

Byrne is considered a four-star recruit on the On3 ranking. He currently sits as the No. 151 overall player and No. 14 offensive tackle in the 2025 recruiting class. That ranking also has Byrne rated as the top player in the state of New York.

The 6-6, 290-pound offensive tackle has been pulling in a variety of scholarship offers over the last few weeks. Some of the notable programs who have pulled the trigger include Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, Stanford, Maryland, Minnesota, Boston College, Duke, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Rutgers among others.

Byrne is a big reason for the offensive success that the Gaels had last season. En route to a 9-3 overall record, the offense averaged 461.1 yards per game. They were especially impressive in running the football, averaging 257.3 yards per game on the ground, 39 touchdowns and 8.3 yards per carry.
