For the first time, 2026 Charlotte (N.C.) Myers Park defensive end Rodney Dunham will be checking out Notre Dame on Saturday for spring practice. Offered during the Pot of Gold offer push on St. Patrick's Day, Dunham has already been speaking very highly of the Irish program.

As a high academic kid, Dunham clearly understands what Notre Dame brings to the table. He is excited to be able to explore this weekend, and understand what the program brings to the table at a deeper level.

"I know that Notre Dame is a notable historic program and has a strong foundation set and a high standard,” Dunham told Irish Breakdown. "I’m excited to learn more about all aspects of the program. My relationship has been good so far. The coaches keep in contact well, and we talk weekly right now.

"The relationship really has been great,” Dunham added. "They’ve been recruiting me the best so far.”

For this trip, it’s about Dunham being able to visualize himself in the blue and gold. The practice, as well as relationship with the coaches, are two things he is most looking forward to.

"I’m most excited to see the practice and meet the coaches in person,” he explained. "Also, I’d like to see the campus and meet people. My overall expectations are high given what type of program that they have. I expect a high intensity and a competitive environment during the practice.”

It’s very early in the recruiting process, but Dunham certainly has a high opinion of Notre Dame so far. They are one of several schools that have made an impact on him thus far.

"Schools that stand out so far are Duke, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Florida State," Dunham noted. "It’s early but they are all doing a really good job.”

There’s a good chance that Notre Dame could continue that momentum this weekend.

Dunham currently holds offers from several schools, with that list continuing to grow. His top offers so far include the Irish, Florida State, South Carolina, Duke, James Madison, East Carolina and Charlotte.

As a sophomore, Dunham was a terror for opposing offenses. In 10 games, the 6-4, 215-pound defensive lineman recorded 55 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Dunham also had another 20 quarterback pressures, three interceptions, three pass breakups and a blocked field goal.

To showcase his athleticism, Dunham is also one of the state’s top baseball players. He has topped out at over 90 miles per hour on his fastball over the past couple of months, and could potentially explore playing both sports on the next level.
