Notre Dame's outstanding offensive class just got better with Lufkin (Texas) High School running back Kedren Young committing to the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame has been looking to add a second running back in the 2024 class for some time, but with Aneyas Williams already in the 2024 class and the Irish signing Jeremiyah Love in the 2023 class, the staff was picky about who they would bring in to go with Williams.

Young was offered a scholarship by Notre Dame back in January, and he quickly became the top target on the board. Young and running backs coach Deland McCullough were able to build a strong connection in the months that followed.

The 5-11, 210-pound back had visits to Texas A&M, TCU and Texas Tech already lined up for June, but he is now a member of the Notre Dame 2024 recruiting class.

Young was a star for Lufkin last season, rushing for 1,751 yards and 19 touchdowns. That was good for 7.4 yards per carry. Young has the size and physicality that Notre Dame wanted to complement Williams, but his game is much more than that. Young has impressive foot quickness and his vision is top notch. His speed for a 210-pound back is also outstanding.

Landing Young also continues Notre Dame's outstanding performance in the state of Texas. He becomes the third player from the state of Texas to commit to Notre Dame in the 2024 class, joining defensive end Loghan Thomas and cornerback Leonard Moore. Notre Dame also signed four players from Texas in the 2023 class.

The Lufkin star is ranked as the nation's No. 82 overall player in the country according to On3, and he's also ranked as the No. 8 running back. Young also ranks as a Top 100 recruit on the Irish Breakdown board.

Young earned offers from Michigan, Texas, Texas A&M, Miami (Fla.), TCU, Nebraska, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Arizona State, Arizona, Texas Tech, Purdue, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, UCF and Houston.
