Kennedy Urlacher Commits To Notre Dame

Notre Dame has picked up a commitment from 2024 safety Kennedy Urlacher

Notre Dame has added another talented player to its 2024 class by landing Chandler (Ariz.) High School safety Kennedy Urlacher. Landing Urlacher is big for Notre Dame, who have major needs at safety in this class. Urlacher picked Notre Dame over Miami (Fla.), Penn State, TCU, Kansas State and Illinois.

Notre Dame went into the 2024 recruiting cycle with safety as a much need, and Urlacher was the player the Irish staff targeted very early. The Irish staff tag teamed this recruitment and were able to get Urlacher to kick off the safety class. Head coach Marcus Freeman and safeties coach Chris O'Leary both played key roles in landing the Chandler standout.

The 6-1, 180-pound Urlacher is a talented safety for Chandler, showing the ability to play the alleys, to handle man coverage and to play the middle of the field. Urlacher fits well into the Irish defense and what it wants from the safeties. During his three-year career with Chandler, Urlacher has racked up 80 tackles, 12 pass break ups and three interceptions. He did miss much of his sophomore season with an injury, but he bounced back with a strong junior campaign

Urlacher is an underrated player that is currently a consensus three-star recruit, but he earned a 4.0-star grade on the Irish Breakdown board. Urlacher earned offers Miami, Penn State, Washington, TCU, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Stanford, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas State, Arizona, Arizona State, Kansas and California.

Although he is the first safety in the class, Urlacher joins a secondary that already has Texas cornerback Leonard Moore and Ohio cornerback Karson Hobbs

The last time Notre Dame signed a player from Chandler, Ariz. was back in 2013 when Cole Luke signed with the Fighting Irish. Luke played at Hamilton High School and was a multi-year starter for Notre Dame. He's the third player in five years from Arizona to pick the Irish, joining offensive lineman Tosh Baker (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) and cornerback Benjamin Morrison (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy Prep).

Urlacher is the son of Hall of Fame linebacker Brian Urlacher.
