Star 2026 Quarterback Ryder Lyons Grateful For Notre Dame Offer
Notre Dame has now extended offers to five different quarterbacks in the 2026 recruiting class so far. The latest was Folsom (Calif.) High School standout Ryder Lyons, who was offered this past Wednesday by the team.
If Folsom sounds familiar, it is because it’s the high school of 2023 Irish wide receiver signee Rico Flores Jr. If the last name Lyons also rings some bells, it’s because his older brother, Walker Lyons, was a star tight end in the 2023 class and eventually signed with USC but will be delaying enrollment while on a LDS mission.
The younger Lyons went in depth on the recent offer from Notre Dame. It was one that he fully understand the magnitude of.
"Initially I was just insanely grateful and excited for the offer,” Lyons told Irish Breakdown. "For me it’s just more motivation. I am always looking to find ways to get better and compete. I was for sure super fired up knowing how great of a school Notre Dame is.”
So far Lyons has steadying been building a relationship with the Irish staff, although opportunities can be very limited at his age. Still, he has had the chance to get to know the Irish staff a bit and looks forward to growing that bond moving forward.
"I’ve been on the phone with Coach Gino (Guidugli) a couple times which has been super cool but I am just super excited for our relationship to grow,” he said. "Recruiting has been going good in general. I am just focusing right now on executing on Friday nights and the rest will do its part. Obviously I saw my brother go through his process so I kind of know a lot of what to expect.”
From a talent perspective, you won’t find many better than Lyons in the 2026 recruiting class. The Irish hope to build a bit of a pipeline in Folsom, one of the top programs in the state of California traditionally.
Lyons has already been pulling in several impressive offers. Some of the top schools who have offered him thus far include the Fighting Irish, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Colorado, Washington State, BYU, Pittsburgh and Cal among others.
After backing up Washington signee Austin Mack as a freshman, Lyons has taken over the starting quarterback duties as a sophomore. The 6-2, 185-pound signal caller 463 yards and two touchdowns through two games. Lyons is also completing 65 percent of his passes and has another two touchdowns on the ground.
