Texas Defender Anthony Williams "In Shock" Over Notre Dame offer

Standout 2025 defender Anthony Williams recaps recent Notre Dame offer

Notre Dame continues to expand the 2025 recruiting board, attracting key talent across high school football. On Tuesday, the Irish staff extended an offer to Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek defender Anthony β€œDeuce” Williams, who has some upside as either a linebacker or Vyper on the next level.

In an interview with Irish Breakdown, Williams pulled back the curtain on the recent offer. He also gave some insight into his recruiting journey, which has been very brief after finishing up his first year of high school football.

"My initial thoughts when I got the offer was I was literally just in shock and proud of myself,” Williams said. "After one season my recruitment just went crazy. It’s only up from here.

"Notre Dame is a great school,” he continued. β€œI always used to watch them when I was younger. They are a massive brand and a great program.”

The recruiting process is new to Williams, who is doing his best to navigate the early interest. This summer includes several chances to impress on the camp trail, as well as some school visits potentially.

"Right now, I just have a bunch of camps scheduled,” said Williams. "I’m sure I’ll take some school visits but there isn’t anything cemented right now. Notre Dame is definitely a place I would like to see though.”

On film, Williams does a lot of his work on the edge for Shadow Creek. He has a skill set that could potentially make an impact at either linebacker or on the edge full time. This type of athleticism and versatility is something that the Irish staff has been drawn to.

Williams is rated as a four-star recruit by On3. On that ranking, they have the Texas native pegged as the No. 193 overall recruit and the No. 18 Edge in the 2025 recruiting class. He is also rated as the No. 34 player in the state of Texas, an area that Notre Dame has made a clear priority under Marcus Freeman.

The 6-4, 205-pound linebacker has been capturing the attention of several standout programs. Some of the notable offers that Williams has been extended include Notre Dame, Nebraska, TCU, Arizona State, Washington State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Cal and Kansas among several others.

As a sophomore, Williams assumed a significant role on the Shadow Creek defense. He recorded 26 total tackles and eight tackles for loss in just eight games. Williams also had a pass breakups and a forced fumble as well.Β
