Tight End James Flanigan Commits To Notre Dame

Notre Dame landed a commitment from 2025 tight end James Flanigan

Notre Dame is off to a hot start with its 2025 class and that group got stronger with the Irish picking up a commitment from Green Bay (Wis.) Notre Dame Academy star James Flanigan

Flanigan is a 6-5, 225-pound standout that earned a 4.0-star and a Top 150 caliber ranking grade on the Irish Breakdown board to go with a 4.5-star upside grade. He hauled in 22 passes for 520 yards (23.6 YPC) and nine touchdowns as a sophomore. A two-way standout, Flanigan also racked up 66 tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks as a defensive end.

In eight games as a junior, Flanigan has hauled in 17 passes for 377 yards (22.2 YPC) and six touchdowns. He's racked up 39 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks, two forced fumbles and picked off a pass

Flanigan is a strong dual-threat tight end that plays attached to the line of scrimmage for much of the game. He's a physical and effective blocker that is only going to get better and better in the run game as he gets older and stronger.

Flanigan can do damage in the short to intermediate areas in the pass game, but he also has the length, vertical ability and ball skills to be a weapon down the field. As a senior he's shown even better vertical speed as a route runner and with the ball in his hands.

He is ranked as the nation's No. 93 overall player and the No. 5 tight end according to On3. 247Sports and ESPN both have him ranked in the Top 200 nationally and Rivals ranks him as the No. 244 overall player. Both On3 and 247Sports rank him as the best player in the state of Wisconsin.

He joins a Notre Dame 2025 class that includes big time quarterback Deuce Knight, running backs Justin Thurman and Daniel Anderson, defensive tackle Davion Dixon, and defensive ends CJ May and Joseph Reiff.

The Wisconsin native earned offers from Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Stanford, Missouri, Louisville, Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa State.

He is the son of former Notre Dame standout Jim Flanigan, who played defensive line for the Irish (1990-93). Flanigan's father and grandfather played in the NFL. Despite that family lineage, Flanigan was not initially a lean towards Notre Dame. Offensive coordinator Gerad Parker did an excellent job building a connection with Flanigan, which played a key role in him ultimately committing to Notre Dame.
