Tight End James Flanigan Recaps Awesome Notre Dame Visit

Star 2025 tight end James Flanigan recaps return visit for game against USC

Notre Dame is recruiting several Irish legacies in the 2025 recruiting class, including Green Bay (Wis.) Notre Dame De La Baie Academy tight end James Flanigan who is the son of former Irish defensive lineman Jim Flanigan. Over the weekend, the Flanigan family returned to South Bend during the program’s battle against USC.

It was yet another great visit for Flanigan, who raved about the game. The energy, and atmosphere during that 48-20 victory really capped off an excellent trip.

"The game was awesome,” Flanigan told Irish Breakdown. "It was so much fun to be at. It was an electric atmosphere. The stadium was going crazy and the atmosphere just kept building throughout the game.”

Relationships have been very authentic throughout the process. That continued during this most recent visit with Notre Dame. That has really stood out for Flanigan.

"It was great to see everyone again,” he said. "They really want me to be a part of their family. They have always made that clear.

"I really like Notre Dame,” he added. "Everything is really good with them.”

When will a decision come? That still remains a little up in the air. With Notre Dame in a tremendous position, it will be interesting to see when that clarity is gained.

"I’m still deciding on that,” Flanigan said about a timeline. "I think it will figure itself out.”

Flanigan has been hearing from several big time programs, including receiving offers from the Fighting Irish, Michigan, Wisconsin and Missouri thus far. The Wisconsin standout is rated as a four-star by both 247Sports and ESPN, including being pegged as the No. 166 overall player and No. 9 tight end in the 2025 recruiting class by 247Sports.

On the football field, Flanigan brings some impressive upside. He was a two-way star for the team as a sophomore, making a plethora of plays at both tight end and linebacker. The sophomore standout hauled in 22 receptions for 520 yards and nine touchdowns.

On defense, Flanigan recorded 66 total tackles, seven tackles for loss and three sacks. He was selected as an All Conference performer at both positions.

As a junior, Flanigan has hauled in 10 receptions for 264 yards and four touchdowns in five games played.

Flanigan is also a standout left winger for the school’s hockey team. They are fresh off of a 28-0 record this season, which included a state championship. Flanigan is a legitimate prospect on the ice as well.

If that wasn’t enough, Flanigan is also a dynamic thrower for the school’s track and field program. He is fresh off of the state championship with a discus throw of 177 '10". Flanigan also finished second in the shot put with a best throw of 52 '7".
