Tight End Nate Roberts Decommits From Notre Dame

Star 2025 Oklahoma tight end Nate Roberts has backed off of his pledge to Notre Dame

Notre Dame has suffered a loss from its 2025 recruiting class with Washington (Okla.) High School tight end Nate Roberts announcing his de-commitment. Roberts backed off his pledge and is likely to head to in-state Oklahoma.

Roberts committed to the Fighting Irish on June 17th, calling Notre Dame his "dream school." He picked Notre Dame over programs like Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, Michigan and several others. That dream for Roberts didn't last two months before he decided to back out of that pledge.

There have been rumblings about this possibility for several days, and now it has become official. Roberts leaving the class is certainly a loss from a talent standpoint, but Notre Dame has targeted a number of talented tight ends in the class and there is still plenty of time to get on the board with another talented tight end in the 2025 class.

The 6-4, 230-pound tight end was a dynamic pass catcher as a sophomore. Roberts would explode for 705 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns on just 33 receptions, averaging 21.3 yards per reception. His explosiveness was put on full display after the catch with 324 yards.

Even with Roberts in the class, Notre Dame has not backed off recruiting other talented tight ends in the 2025 class. A top target of the Fighting Irish staff for quite some time is Green Bay (Wis.) Notre Dame De La Baie Academy standout tight end James Flanigan. Notre Dame has hosted Flanigan for multiple visits, and the talented pass catcher is also looking hard at Stanford and Wisconsin, but Notre Dame has made a strong move with Flanigan over the last month.
