Notre Dame received an important commitment from 2024 Salinas (Calif.) Palma wide receiver Logan Saldate, giving the Fighting Irish program their third wide receiver commitment in the class and the perfect compliment to Cam Williams and Micah Gilbert. For most Notre Dame fans and faithful, this commitment came as a bit of a surprise.

In reality, this was a recruitment that the Irish staff had been working on for several weeks. They identified the talented pass catcher, did their homework, started the relationship and made him a priority very quickly.

"I have mostly been dealing with Chad (Bowden), " Saldate told Irish Breakdown. "He followed me on Instagram a few weeks ago and honestly I didn’t think much of it. I was fully locked into my commitment with Oregon State and didn’t have Notre Dame on my radar.

"Then he hit me up after that and told me that they were interested in me,” he continued. "(I sent) a video of me running routes and running a forty yard dash. Once they saw it, things took a turn for the best. I started to talk to all the coaches and really get to know them. They really loved the player I am.”

The allure of Notre Dame football was big for Saldate. Of course, that wasn't enough to seal the deal. Relationships were big for the California native and was a necessity before he made the plunge. How cordial, and easy those relationships with the coaches were, really helped to seal the deal.

"It’s been a really fluent process,” he stated. "All the coaches and staff are super easy to talk to. They have made my family all feel super welcomed. Of course we’re talking about football but they really have spent the majority of the time getting to know me as a person.”

A high academic kid to the core, Saldate already fully appreciated all that Notre Dame could bring. Fortunately for the Irish program, he already had a small connection to the program and an early introduction to them.

"I was definitely excited when I got the opportunity,” Saldate explained. "Not many people know this but I played on the same 7-on-7 team as Cooper Flanagan and I remember he was getting ready to commit to them.

"I remember thinking like, 'Wow Notre Dame is dang near my dream school',” he continued. "I remember talking to Cooper about all the pros and cons of the school. It seemed like such a great place.”

Now committed, Saldate already has plans to visit his new home early on in the season. To say it is a highly anticipated trip would be a massive understatement.

"I wanted to try and take an unofficial visit but didn’t get a chance to do so,” said Saldate. "I’m going to be taking an official to Notre Dame for the first home game of the season against Tennessee State. It will be my first home game and we are all really excited to see it all.”

The sell was easy. Saldate sees the long term vision, which ultimately brought him to making this decision.

"The biggest sell is mainly life after football,” he said. "If I go to the NFL, it will only last for a limited amount of time. Notre Dame brings unlimited connections to the table. It was honestly a no-brainer for me. After talking with my parents, I just felt like if I passed up this opportunity then I would be kicking myself later on.”

Since Georgia pass catcher Isiah Canion de-commited and flipped to Georgia Tech on July 1st, there were questions about what Notre Dame’s next move would be to get a third wide receiver in the class. They quickly found their answer in Saldate, a dynamic slot receiver who brings a unique dynamic to the table.

As a junior, Saldate was a big play waiting to happen. In 11 games, he hauled in 54 receptions for 713 yards and nine touchdowns. He also carried the football 11 times for 114 yards and another two scores.

Saldate had been committed to Oregon State since Memorial Day on May 29th. The California native originally chose the Beavers over finalists Washington, Oklahoma State, Arizona and Cal. The 5-11, 185-pound pass catcher also held an offer from Washington State.
