Jon Rothstein: Ohio State Buckeyes Men's Basketball is a 'Top Tier' Big Ten Team
College basketball analyst Jon Rothstein had some high praise for the Ohio State Buckeyes men's basketball team.
Rothstein said the Buckeyes looked like a "top-tier team" following their performance at the Emerald Coast Classic over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Ohio State coach Chris Holtmann added several pieces to his roster over the offseason, which Rothstein said has been crucial to their 6-1 record. Rothstein said the Buckeyes helmsman clearly did his research when choosing which players to take from the portal, seeing value where other coaches might not have.
"Chris Holtmann is meticulous in everything he does," Rothstein said. "He was meticulous when he put together this transfer class...Ohio State looks like a top-tier team in the Big Ten."
Rothstein elaborated on his comments about the quality players the Buckeyes snagged from the transfer portal over the offseason, breaking down what each of the additions does to make the Scarlet and Gray so dangerous.
"Jamison Battle is the name we're gonna look at in bold print," Rothstein said. "Dale Bonner: very valuable reserve, double-figures (scoring) off the bench. Evan Mahaffey, the transfer from Penn State, great defensive player, reminds me a lot of what Ohio State got a couple of years ago from Andre Wesson. But, these were not guys who you looked at their statistics and said 'These were major producers, let's add them.' They fit like a puzzle.'"
Ohio State looks to preserve their five-game winning streak on Sunday, December 3. The Buckeyes will host the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the first game of their conference schedule at 6:30 p.m. inside Value City Arena.
