The graduate guard is in the running for the most starts, minutes per game and shooting percentage on the team.

Saying this season has not been one to remember for the Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team is not a harsh statement.

The Buckeyes (11-16, 3-13 Big Ten) have been on a skid since the start of 2023, winning only two of their 15 games over that time. Most recently, Ohio State fell 82-55 to the No. 5 Purdue Boilermakers in West Lafayette, Indiana on Sunday.

Despite the struggles as a team, graduate guard Sean McNeil has been a positive in a year of negatives for Ohio State.

McNeil came to the Buckeyes after graduating from West Virginia University with a sports management degree. During that time, McNeil played for head coach Bob Huggins and the Mountaineers men’s basketball team, averaging almost ten points per game.

McNeil averages the second-most minutes in each contest with 29.1, trailing freshman guard Bruce Thornton’s 29.4 minutes. Furthermore, McNeil is in the runner-up spot on the team in three-point percentage with a 38.8% clip (minimum 50 attempts).

On Thursday against Iowa, McNeil shot seven-of-seven from the field, including four-of-four from beyond the arc and two-of-two at the free-throw line.

The charity stripe is the best area on the floor for McNeil in terms of shooting, as his 86.5% is the most among his Buckeye teammates.

Additionally, McNeil has started 23 of the 28 games in which he has played, the same number of games as sophomore forward and highly regarded Ohio State star, Zed Key.

Whenever the Buckeyes get back on track, it's almost certain McNeil will be a part of the return to the win column.
