Ohio State's Losing Streak Extends After 90-75 Defeat at Iowa
Ohio State's struggles continued Thursday as the Buckeyes fell 90-75 against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City.
The Buckeyes (11-15, 3-12 Big Ten) trailed the Hawkeyes (17-9, 9-6 Big Ten) by 11 at the half, and were outscored 45-39 in the second period to seal the defeat.
Senior guard Sean McNeil was a bright spot for the Buckeyes (11-15, 3-12 Big Ten) scoring 20 points in the affair. This matched his total from November 21, when the Buckeyes lost to No. 17 San Diego State during the Maui Invitational.
To make things worse for Ohio State, junior forward Zed Key re-aggravated a shoulder injury that has ailed him most of the season during the second half.
McNeil was one of three Buckeyes to score in double figures, alongside freshman forward Brice Sensabaugh with 16 and freshman guard Bruce Thornton with 11.
Both the Buckeyes and the Hawkeyes shot 57% from the floor, 28-of-49 and 37-of-65 respectively, however, Ohio State had better luck from downtown, outshooting Iowa from beyond the arc 53% (8-of-15) to 37% (10-of-27).
Ohio State's bench was responsible for 30 points, 11 more than the 19 scored by Iowa's reserves. However, Ohio State gave up 14 turnovers compared to Iowa's 6, hauled in 22 rebounds when Iowa snagged 30 and only scored four second-chance points while the Hawkeyes earned 15.
The Buckeyes remain on the road, heading next to West Lafayette, Indiana to battle the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Mackey Arena.
