Ohio State Women's Basketball Falls in Big 10 Championship to Iowa

Senior guard Taylor Mikesell's 24 points were not enough to push the four-seed Buckeyes past the two-seed Hawkeyes Sunday evening.

The Ohio State women's basketball team lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday night in the Big Ten Championship game, 105-69.

The Buckeyes finished shooting 35% from the floor as a team, and 31% from three-point range. Additionally, Ohio State went 14-of-22 from the free-throw line (64%) compared to Iowa's 83% on 24-of-29.

The Hawkeyes outscored the Buckeyes in three of the game's four quarters, with the largest margin being in the first, 25-9. Ohio State got the better of Iowa coming out of halftime, 30-22.

Senior guard Taylor Mikesell led the Buckeyes in scoring with 24 points, followed closely by freshman guard Cotie McMahon with 23. McMahon also had seven rebounds, which were the most on the team.

Iowa was led in the box score by junior guard Caitlin Clark, whose 30 points, ten rebounds and 17 assists were good enough for a triple-double.

Two Ohio State starters finished without a single point to their name: redshirt-junior Rikki Harris and senior forward Eboni Walker.

Senior forward Rebeka Mikulasikova came off the bench, but did not score in the game either.

Ohio State defeated Michigan 81-79 on Friday and Indiana 79-75 on Saturday, completing the largest comeback in tournament history in the latter game, to qualify for a spot in the championship.

The Hawkeyes got the better of Ohio State earlier in the season, defeating the Buckeyes 83-72 on their home floor back on January 23.

The Buckeyes fall to 25-7 overall as they await their seeding in the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced on Sunday, March 12 at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
