Anything can happen at the NFL Trade Deadline, as former Ohio State Buckeyes defensive end Chase Young found out the hard way.

Young, who was drafted second overall by the Washington Commanders in 2020, was dealt to the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Now in his fourth year at the professional level, Young was previously considered by many to be a foundational part of the Commanders defense. The Hyattsville, Maryland native has amassed 90 tackles over 34 career games with Washington, along with five sacks this season alone.

A member of the Buckeyes from 2017 to 2019, Young was a force at the college level. Young finished two tackles shy of 100 total but paired that with 30.5 sacks and eight forced fumbles.

Young was the second Commanders defensive end to be dealt at the trade deadline, along with Montez Sweat. Sweat, a former first-round selection like Young, was sent to the Chicago Bears earlier on Tuesday.

The former Defensive Rookie of the Year should not have trouble adjusting to his new team, as he will join former Ohio State defensive star Nick Bosa on the West Coast. Bosa was chosen by the 49ers in the same position as Young in the 2019 NFL Draft and has compiled 46 sacks and 178 total tackles over five years.

Bosa is in the midst of contract negotiations with the 49ers however, but a deal is likely to come soon for the star edge rusher.
