Watch: Ex-Buckeye WR Garrett Wilson Makes 'Catch Of The Year' vs. Jets
Lost in conversations between Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State fans forget how special Garrett Wilson was during his time in Columbus.
On Monday night, Wilson gave fans a reason to call him one of the top targets to walk through Ohio Stadium in the past decade.
In the New York Jets' harrowing 22-16 overtime win against the Buffalo Bills, Wilson made what could be considered the catch of the year in front of millions on Monday Night Football.
Trailing 13-6 in the fourth quarter, the former first-round target bobbled a pass from Zach Wilson that could have been an interception, and turned it into a one-handed touchdown grab, tying the game at 13 apiece.
After the game, Zach Wilson admitted that play call was actually meant to be a different play, but "G" had other plans.
"We had a run play called," Zach Wilson told reporters. "And you guys know G, the dude's pushing me all day: 'Throw the fade, throw the fade, throw the fade.' And I want to.
"He went up there and made a play. It wasn't the best throw — dude was out there boxing him out. That dude has unbelievable ball skills. He always finds a way to come down with it. He's somebody I just have to keep leaning onto."
Garrett Wilson finished the night with five catches for 34 yards and a score. The Jets will travel to Wilson's home state of Texas to take on the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Week 2 at 4:25 p.m.
Last season, Garrett Wilson was named Offensive Rookie of the Year after becoming the first Jets receiver to finish with over 1,000 receiving yards since Brandon Marshall in 2015. Playing with four different quarterbacks, the top-10 pick recorded 83 catches for 1,103 yards and four TDS.
Garrett Wilson will likely have to build a relationship with Zach Wilson in the passing game if he hopes to continue his domination in the NFL following Aaron Rodgers' season-ending injury. Rodgers, who was traded to the franchise this offseason by the Green Bay Packers, lasted four snaps before suffering a left torn Achilles tendon.
Garrett Wilson posted his thoughts on the injury after the Jets' season-opening win, wishing "prayers for 8" entering Tuesday morning.
