'Buckeyes Are Going For It!' Analyst Raves About Ohio State Offseason Changes

The Ohio State Buckeyes are going all in in 2024.
In this story:

The Ohio State Buckeyes have had arguably the best offseason of any school in the country, thanks in large part to head coach Ryan Day.

It started with reeling in one of the top recruiting classes in the country, which was filled to the brim with players capable of coming in early and contributing.

It continued with the unprecedented amount of NFL talent that elected to return for one more run in 2024, and some key additions to the coaching staff such as new offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien.

Now, it has culminated in one of the most impressive portal hauls in the country, with the Buckeyes landing instant-impact players like Quinshon Judkins (Ole Miss), Will Howard (Kansas State), Caleb Downs (Alabama) and Seth McLaughlin (Alabama).

And according to 247Sports analyst Chris Hummer, the Buckeyes have now positioned themselves for a national title run in 2024.

"You don't win a national championship with January roster movement," Hummer said. "But Day's aggressiveness in all aspects of his program has positioned the Buckeyes better than they have been in years to finally break through."

"Day's chips are now in the middle of the table. The Buckeyes are going for it."

But that's not all the Buckeyes have done, either.

By landing No. 1 2024 QB Julian Sayin, Day has also secured his future at the quarterback position - something that looked rather murky after the Cotton Bowl loss to Missouri last month.

While bringing in all of this transfer talent could in theory force some other players out, at the end of the day, Hummer believes the Buckeyes did what they had to do to take a step forward and put themselves back in position to compete.

"Forget upsetting the players currently on your roster," Hummer wrote. "Transfers like Downs and Judkins are good enough to shift the 2024 national title race. Day did what he had to do."

As it stands - due in large part to these additions to the roster - the Buckeyes have the second-best national title odds in the country, per SI Sportsbook.

And after such an impressive offseason, that's exactly where they should be.
