Bill O'Brien Thanks Ryan Day, Opens Up About Boston College Move
The Ohio State Buckeyes were presented with an unprecedented situation over the last few weeks.
Last month, the Buckeyes hired Bill O'Brien as their new offensive coordinator, with the long-time coach expected to take over play-calling duties from Ryan Day for the 2024 season.
However, just three weeks later, O'Brien was already on his way out of Columbus to become the new head coach at Boston College, with Day turning to UCLA head coach Chip Kelly as a replacement.
And during his introductory presser in Boston, O'Brien thanked Day for his patience and understanding during the process.
"I really want to thank Ryan Day, the head football coach at Ohio State for his patience and his understanding of why it was so important for me to pursue this job," O'Brien said. "A lot of people here at Boston College are familiar with Ryan Day. Ryan Day is an outstanding person, an outstanding coach, and he was great during this whole process."
So why did O'Brien leave Columbus after the brief stint?
As a Boston native, being the head coach for the Eagles was always a dream for O'Brien, who was a fan of the program for most of his life growing up and through his years in college.
And now, his dream is realized.

"I always dreamed about being the head coach at Boston College," O'Brien said. "My career has taken some twists and turns and taken me down roads I never could’ve imagined, but as I stand here today I could never be more grateful that the road has finally taken me back home to Boston College. Thank you everybody for being here today and I’m proud to be your head coach.
O'Brien and the Eagles begin spring football in less than a month.
