College Football Playoff Chairman Reveals Reason Behind Ohio State Buckeyes Staying No. 1

The Ohio State Buckeyes remained No. 1 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, and Chairman Boo Corrigan revealed exactly why
In this story:

The Ohio State Buckeyes once again came in at No. 1 in the second edition of the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night.

Only, some were surprised to see the Buckeyes retain the top spot, following their struggles with unranked Rutgers on Saturday, alongside Georgia's takedown of the then-No. 12 ranked Missouri Tigers.

Following the release of the rankings, CFP committee chairman Boo Corrigan revealed exactly why the Buckeyes retained their top spot.

"Well, I can assure you, we talked about it early, we talked about it in the middle and we talked about it late to make sure that we had it, as a committee," Corrigan said. "The win over Rutgers, a top-20 defense, put up 28 points, another 7 on a pick-6, TreVeyon Henderson being back for his second game, the win over Penn State, the win over Notre Dame, the win at Wisconsin, seven wins over teams with winning records really drove the day."

At the end of the day, whether the Buckeyes came in at No. 1 or No. 4, was irrelevant.

Georiga, Michigan, Florida State and Washington fans can complain all they want to, but given the rest of the schedule, and how much football is remaining, the Buckeyes are a lock to make the CFP if they win out.

And, with Michigan and Ohio State set to face off late this month, the same can be said for those other four teams.

Not to mention, the Bulldogs and Buckeyes will likely be on the other side of the 'bracket' from one another anyway, should they be the top two seeds.

Either way, no matter which way you slice it, Ohio State controls its own destiny - and whether they are No. 1 or No. 2, that will not change.
