Instant Analysis of Ohio State’s 35-7 Victory Over Youngstown State

Here's what we thought of how the Buckeyes played, including Kyle McCord and Marvin Harrison's outstanding performances.
In this story:

The Ohio State Buckeyes came to the 'Shoe for the first time in 2023 and took care of business against Youngstown State, 35-7. But the question all week long after a somewhat-lackluster opener was whether or not they could look the part against an FCS opponent.

Well, question .... mostly answered.

The score didn't necessarily indicate the way the Buckeyes dominated the game. They scored five touchdowns on nine possessions, which is a reasonable success rate, but nine total possessions is alarmingly low. That's been the case two consecutive weeks as both of the Buckeyes first two opponents this season have prioritized clock management.

On a positive note, Kyle McCord looked excellent on Saturday and his high school teammate/best friend/Heisman candidate wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. proved (yet again) that he's completely unstoppable.

The defense played well after allowing a game-opening scoring drive. Through two games this year, the Silver Bullets have allowed 10 total points. Denzel Burke also registered the first takeaway of the season with a great interception in the third quarter.

There's still plenty of work that needs to be done for this team to really start clicking - most notably on the offensive line.
