Joel Klatt Defends No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes’ College Football Playoff Ranking
FOX analyst Joel Klatt defended the ranking of the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes Wednesday on his self-titled radio show.
The Buckeyes earned the top spot on Tuesday evening’s College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings, leading to mixed reactions from fans and media personalities.
While breaking down the CFP’s list of the top teams in college football, Klatt said he agreed with Ohio State’s rank. Klatt told his listeners his take was based on the resume of the Buckeyes, rather than their overall quality.
"Ohio State is No. 1 in the country even though they're not No. 1 in either of the polls," Klatt said. "Now, a lot of people will say well this doesn't make any sense and we don't think that they're actually the best team in the country. Fair enough, but they do have the best resume in the country… They've got great wins, folks."
Klatt was on the record as a supporter of the Buckeyes being the top team even before the night of the year’s first CFP announcement. To the former Colorado Buffalos quarterback, Ohio State earning the first-overall spot was clear as day.
"You could see this coming, and I don't have a problem with it," Klatt said. "Ohio State is a damn good football team. They're built a little bit differently than they have been over the last three years. And because of that, maybe this is a form or a strategy or a blueprint for Ohio State that will pay better dividends."
The Buckeyes look to defend their undefeated record this Saturday, November 4 on the road against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
