Justin Fields Names His 'Mount Rushmore' of Ohio State Football
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, on the "St. Brown Bros" podcast hosted by NFL receivers and brothers Amon Ra and Equanimeous, revealed who his "Mount Rushmore" of Ohio State players was Thursday.
Fields said he "never watched Ohio State before" arriving in Columbus, perhaps giving him no bias towards the topic.
"Here’s a disclaimer: I never watched Ohio State before I went there. I went to Georgia. I was a Georgia and SEC fan. I never watched Ohio State," Fields said. "I didn’t know anything about them before I transferred. I never even took a visit before I went up there, but they said I could play, so I took off and slid."
The former QB1 certainly did a lot of just that, becoming one of the top rushing quarterbacks in the program's history, racking up 867 yards for 15 touchdowns in just two seasons.
The Kennesaw, Georgia, native, who played for Ohio State in 2019 and 2020 after transferring from Georgia, had two Heisman winners on his list and humbly did not include himself.
"My Mount Rushmore of the four Ohio State players, shoot. I have to give one to Troy Smith because he won a Heisman," Fields said. "I have to give [Ezekiel Elliott] the second. Ted Ginn [Jr.], I think he was going crazy at Ohio State. Eddie George, too, that’s the last one.”
Perhaps a surprise that the only two-time Heisman winner ever, former Buckeye running back Archie Griffin, was not on his list but rather one who helped win Ohio State's last title in 2014.
There has been much speculation surrounding whether the Bears will keep Fields this offseason or draft a quarterback first overall — namely, Southern California's Caleb Williams — or trade down for another.
The former Buckeye QB1 has proved he is a viable starting quarterback in the league, so should have no trouble finding a new home if the Bears do move on from him.
