Tommy Eichenberg Headlines 13 Ohio State Buckeyes Defensive Players Earning Postseason Honors
The Ohio State Buckeyes have been one of the best defenses in college football all season long, ranking at or near the top of the country in scoring defense (second), total defense (3rd), passing defense (1st), and rushing defense (22nd).
It is a defense that was able to put the Buckeyes on the precipice of a Big Ten Championship Berth and a College Football Playoff bid.
Ultimately, however, the Buckeyes would fall short of that goal after their loss to Michigan on Saturday.
However, that should not take away from the elite level of play that the defense displayed throughout the season.
As a result of that elite play, multiple Buckeyes defenders have earned post-season honors. Most notably, Ohio State linebacker Tommy Eichenberg was named the Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year, which goes to the best linebacker in the Big Ten.
Eichenberg finished the season ranking first on the team with 82 tackles. He also had 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, four QB hurries, and a forced fumble in 10 games.
Eichenberg was also named first-team All-Big Ten, alongside Buckeyes defensive end JT Tuimoloau and cornerback, Denzel Burke.
Meanwhile, defensive linemen Jack Sawyer and Tyleik Williams were also named second-team All-Big Ten.
