No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Michigan State Spartans: How to Watch, Betting Odds
The Buckeyes host the Spartans this weekend at Ohio Stadium in a Big Ten matchup between two very different teams. Michigan State is feeling better after snapping a six-game skid after the suspension and subsequent firing of former coach Mel Tucker with a 20-17 win over Nebraska last week. It was the Spartans' first Big Ten win this season.
“Winning does a lot, heals a lot of wounds and pain,” interim coach Harlon Barnett said.
Barnett was an assistant coach with the Spartans the last three times they knocked off Ohio State in 2011, 2013 and 2015.
"I know what it is to go down there and compete, play hard against these guys," Barnett said. “They’re beatable guys, just like everybody else. We’re going down there to attack these guys and see what happens.”
The Buckeyes continue their undefeated run toward the College Football Playoff after a scare against Rutgers last week in a game Ohio State trailed 9-7 at the half. A 28-point second half saved the day, as did a 93-yard pick-6 by corner Jordan Hancock for the Buckeyes' only first-half points.
Ohio State hopes to get off to a better start on Saturday.
“There are definitely signs that we’re moving in the right direction," Day said. "But you know, it’s getting late in the season. So our urgency is at an all-time high.”
A lot of pressure has been put on first-year Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord, and he's responded with inconsistent play at times. But the return of running back TreVeyon Henderson has relieved some of the pressure from McCord and the team has responded positively. In his last two games, Henderson has rushed for 290 yards and two touchdowns, along with nine catches for 125 yards.
