Ex-Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn Calls Out Ryan Day For 'Bizarre' Lou Holtz Rant

Quinn defended former Fighting Irish coach Lou Holtz after Day called out his pre-game comments against the Buckeyes.

It is safe to assume everyone around the college football world has heard Ohio State coach Ryan Day's comments following Saturday's 17-14 win against then-No. 9 Notre Dame.

Day called out comments made by former Fighting Irish head coach Lou Holtz, whom said the Buckeyes are not a physical team and that they should prepare for a "full day's work."

Quinn was confused at the timing and sudden burst of passion from a typically more reserved Day, saying it was misplaced, in his opinion.

"Where's that emotion after the last two years against Michigan," Quinn said. "Did Lou Holtz say anything that wasn't true about those previous losses? There wasn't anything that he said that wasn't true. It was for TV. He's an 86-year-old man. This came off to me as Ryan Day looking bizarre for taking this emotional response after a big win."

Quinn returned fire at Day, wondering why someone outside of the program was more on his mind than his players who were responsible for the hard-fought victory.

"Like that's your first words," Quinn said. "You don't talk about your team, your players, anything that stood out to you? You had a quarterback you had to name as the starter because of how inconsistent it looked through camp and early in the season. You don't want to say, 'What about Kyle McCord and the job he did?' What about our defense? What about TreVeyon (Henderson)? That's the angle you took?"

Day does not have a scheduled press conference until Tuesday, October 3 when he will preview that weekend's game against the Maryland Terrapins.

Saturday's win against the Irish will be ancient history by then. However, judging by how much traction the 'Day-versus-Holtz' conversation continues to receive, plenty of questions will be asked about that now-famous postgame interview.
