Ohio State Buckeyes Announce Big Ten Opponents Through 2028

The Ohio State Buckeyes made some scheduling updates as it pertains to their Big Ten opponents through 2028.
In this story:

With the additions of Oregon and Washington for the 2024 season coming after the Big Ten released its Flex Protect Plus scheduling model, some addendums needed to be made.

And now with the Huskies and Ducks both added to the Buckeyes' future schedules, home and road matchups for the next half-decade have been finalized.

As it stands now, the Buckeyes will travel to Eugene in 2024 to face Oregon for their first matchup against the new Big 10 teams.

Ohio State will also host UCLA and travel on the road to Seattle to face Washington in 2025. In 2026, the Buckeyes will host Oregon and travel to Los Angeles to face USC.

The Bucks will also face a newly-minted SEC opponent - the Texans Longhorns - at home in 2025 and in Austin in 2026.

In 2027 USC will make their way to Colombus, while the Buckeyes will travel to Oregon. And in 2028, the Buckeyes will face Washington at home, and UCLA on the road.

Ohio State also has Alabama in Columbus in 2027 and will travel to face the Tide in 2028.

The Flex Protect Plus scheduling model "features a combination of protected opponents and rotating opponents for universities. Each member institution will continue to play nine intraconference games per season, and teams will play every other conference opponent at least twice – once home and once away – in a four-year period," according to a Big Ten release.

Ohio State's lone protected rival is Michigan.

In 2022, USC and UCLA announced that they were joining the Big Ten which threw the first of two wrenches into what the traditional conference landscape was known as.

The league drew attention from West Coast schools in part due to the lucrative $7 billion media rights deal that the Big Ten signed with CBS, FOX, and NBC. That's why Buckeyes games are now being shown on Peacock, among other networks.

USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington saw the opportunity to flock to where the money was with the Pac-12 struggling to secure a new media rights deal, and were one of the first of many cogs in what has been rampant and widespread Power Five conference expansion.

Ignoring the travel costs and physical taxation on the athletes, themselves, the four schools' competitiveness presents a good, new challenge for the existing Big Ten teams.
