Avery Henry Hospitalized With COVID-19
Former Ohio State Buckeyes offensive lineman Avery Henry was hospitalized and in critical condition Tuesday with COVID-19 and the flu, he announced on X.
Henry said on X that he went to the emergency room and found out his white blood cell and Absolute Neutrophil counts were both low. Henry was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, in December 2022, later announcing he was cancer free May 11.
"I went to the ER yesterday because I got really sick out of [nowhere]," Henry said on X. "To find out I have an extremely low white blood count and ANC. Which fights infections. To then finding out I have Covid and the Flu at the same time. I’ll be in the hospital for a awhile."
The St. Clairsville, Ohio, native medically retired from football after his cancer procedures made it "virtually impossible to play football" again, head coach Ryan Day said at Big Ten Media Days in July.
Henry said he is "feeling much better" from the day he was hospitalized and will continue to fight.
"I was in critical condition the first day," Henry said. "I am feeling much better now though! It is important to let people know what this process has been like! And show you guys the ups and downs I’ve had throughout my journey. Just know it’s never over till you say it is!! GO BUCKS #FIGHT"
