Ohio State Transfer WR Caleb Burton III Commits to Auburn
Ohio State Buckeyes receiver Caleb Burton III has officially found his new home, committing to the Auburn Tigers on Saturday per an announcement on his Twitter account.
The Lake Travis (Austin, TX) native did not see the field for the Buckeyes in his freshman season and will have four years of eligibility remaining. An undisclosed injury kept him from seeing a single snap.
He now joins fellow Buckeyes receiver Kaleb Brown as players to officially leave the program, as Brown announced Thursday that he'll be transferring to Iowa.
Despite being in the class of 2022, Burton had been committed to Ohio State since Nov. 2020, showing from the start he knew where he wanted to be. But this fall, he would've had to fight for playing time in a deep receiver room that includes the likes of Marvin Harrison Jr., Emeka Egbuka, Xavier Johnson, Julian Fleming, Jayden Ballard, Carnell Tate and others.
Burton was apparently blown away during his visit to Auburn.
“Personally, I didn’t think it was going to be this nice,” Burton said per 247Sports. “I’ve never even heard about this facility or ever seen it and it’s really nice.”
He'll now have a chance to send his collegiate career in a positive direction after an underwhelming time in Columbus.
