Buckeyes QB C.J. Stroud Says He's Been 'College Football's Best Player for Two Years’

Says soon-to-be former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback CJ Stroud: “I think I’ve been the best player in college football for the last two years…and honestly, I don’t think I’ve even touched my potential yet."
In this story:

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud has reflected on his time with the Buckeyes almost every day this week during the NFL Combine. However, Friday might’ve been the most introspective day as quotes are concerned.

On the same day Stroud said he has a tough deciding to come back for another year with the Buckeyes or declare for the draft (he chose the latter eventually), the projected first-round selection also said the realm of college football has been his kingdom each of the past two seasons.

“I think I’ve been the best player in college football for the last two years…and honestly, I don’t think I’ve even touched my potential yet," Stroud said on Friday.

Stroud has certainly been one of the best players in college football over the past two seasons, as he has been a finalist for the Heisman Trophy during that time. However, despite his qualifying to make the trip to New York where the vote takes place, Stroud has never traveled back to Columbus with the hardware.

On a smaller and more obvious level, Stroud has been the best Ohio State quarterback each of the last two seasons, given that he has been the starter both of those years.

Stroud's dominance at the position is also clear in his stats, having thrown for over 3,500 yards, 40 touchdowns and completed 65 percent or more of his passes.

Whether or not you agree with the first part of Stroud's statement, it is hard not to get excited about the ending line. What this "full potential" looks like will remain a mystery, however, until Stroud gets his first snaps in the NFL.
