CJ Stroud Reveals How Ohio State Fans Went to Great Lengths to Personally Bash Him

Ohio State Buckeyes fans were going to get their message to CJ Stroud one way or another.

Despite a gut-wrenching home loss to the Michigan Wolverines on Nov. 26, former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback CJ Stroud had still done enough to get his team to the College Football Playoff.

This 45-23 loss to the Wolverines raised all hell in Columbus, as the criticisms came raining down on the entire team and particularly on Stroud.

Still, directing shots at Stroud was hard to come by, as he doesn't use social media during the season. It's a simple, yet effective strategy to help block out the noise.

But Ohio State fans were going to get the message to him one way or another.

In an interview with Jim Rome, Stroud revealed that Ohio State fans messaged him on Venmo, an app used for financial transactions, to tell him that his play needed to improve.

“I was getting DMs on Venmo, the money app through fans telling me to play better," Stroud said. "It comes with the territory."

The whole ordeal made Stroud realize the kind of lengths Ohio State fans will go to in order to get a message across.

“It’s a two-way street," he said. We’re all humans and (some) people tell you they don’t care, they’re blocking it out. For me and my teammates, being at Ohio State, if you have social media or any type of technology, Ohio State fans have it."

Stroud didn't say at which point in the season these messages were sent, but admitted it was an interesting experience.

“It was insane, but at the end of the day, it comes with the territory," he said. "I learned so much from it.”

Regardless of where Stroud ends up once April's NFL Draft rolls around, the criticisms likely won't end, as is the nature of being a professional athlete.
