Ryan Day Confirms He Will Not Call Plays in 2024
The Ohio State Buckeyes offense could look much different in 2024, and head coach Ryan Day confirmed exactly why on Wednesday.
During his Signing Day press conference, Day finally answered the question that had surrounded this off-season for the Buckeyes, confirming that he will not call plays on offense next season.
"I haven't done it yet, so we'll see," Day joked on the situation before clarifying. "I know that is an ideal situation moving forward. Do I want to? No. I don't. I love the football part of it."
Day, of course, hired Bill O'Brien as the team's new offensive coordinator following the end of the 2024 season, with the idea that he would come in and take control of the offense.
While there are still questions surrounding O'Brien's future with the team after he was reportedly named a finalist for the Boston College head coaching job, Day is operating as though he is still with the Buckeyes until told otherwise.
What Should Ohio State Fans Expect From New Offensive Coordinator Bill O'Brien?
"At Ohio State, we're chasing that 1 to 2 percent," Day said of the hiring of O'Brien. "For me to be able to hand over a lot of the duties that I was doing, I was looking for someone that had a great background in the NFL, in the SEC. He had a great background as a former head coach."
According to multiple reports, there should be a resolution to the Boston College situation by the weekend.
Until then, the Buckeyes will work to implement their new offensive weapons such as Will Howard, Quinshon Judkins, and Jeremiah Smith into the system.
