Buckeyes Explode in 2nd Quarter to Take Big Halftime Lead vs. Western Kentucky
Despite sitting at 2-0 and ranked as the No. 6 team of the country heading into Saturday's matchup with Western Kentucky in Columbus, the Ohio State Buckeyes have visibly struggled through the first two games of the season.
And after getting off to a bit of a slow start in the first quarter, it looked like it could be more of the same for quarterback Kyle McCord and the offense.
However, in the second quarter, things changed in a big way, with the Buckeyes offense exploding for 35 points, and taking a commanding 42-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Behind the explosive offensive output was none other than the starting QB McCord, who completed 13 of 15 passes for 271 yards and three scores - two of which went to No. 2 receiver Emeka Egbuka, who totaled four catches for 57 yards in the half.
On the other side, Marvin Harrison Jr. also had a dominant showing in the half, catching four passes for 118 yards and a long touchdown of his own.
Star tight end Cade Stover also added three catches for 59 yards.
But as impressive as McCord and the passing game was, the Bucks also got it done on the ground, where they totaled three more touchdowns - two from starter Treyveon Henderson, and one from backup Chip Traynum.
The pair of backs would end the half combining for 117 yards on 15 carries.
Ohio State will now aim to close out the second half in the same way they finished the first before they begin to look forward to their big Week 4 matchup with No. 9 Notre Dame.
