WATCH: Ohio State Drops Trailer for 2023 Spring Game
The Ohio State Buckeyes social media team released their trailer on Friday for the 2023 Spring Game.
The annual scrimmage, played in Ohio Stadium and open to the public, is the first official look Buckeye Nation has at the Buckeyes each season.
Despite the result of the Spring Game not affecting Ohio State's season record, there is still plenty to look for when the Buckeyes take the field on Saturday.
The most attention will be on junior quarterback Kyle McCord, who backed up C.J. Stroud last season and started a handful of games as well. McCord is one of the favorites to be named this season's starter at the position, and will no doubt be looking to make a good impression on the fans and coaching staff.
Other position battles of note involve the offensive line, primarily at left tackle and center. Senior Josh Fryar has been working all spring to flip sides from his usual spot on the right side of the line to the vacant spot left by National Football League (NFL)-hopeful Paris Johnson Jr.Β
At center, Carson Hinzman will most likely begin with the starting unit, before succumbing to the frequent reshuffling of personnel set to take place throughout the game.
Recently promoted offensive coordinator Brian Hartline will be the lead play-caller, a position and responsibility previously held by Day.
Finally, rising-sophomore quarterback Devin Brown will be unavailable after undergoing surgery on his finger earlier in the week. Look to Oklahoma State transfer Tristain Gebbia to serve as the backup to McCord in his absence.
While the game is essentially a practice with drills and a light-contact offense-vs-defense competition, supporters of the Scarlet and Gray still flock en mass to the event.
Head coach Ryan Day said on Wednesday that around 50,000 tickets had been sold, but sales ramp up every year in the last couple of days before the game so the number could be even higher.
