Jaxon Smith-Njigba a Top-10 WR Prospect of Last 5 Seasons, says Former NFL GM

Rick Spielman's list of the ten best NFL hopefuls at the position contains Smith-Njigba and his teammate at Ohio State, Garrett Wilson.

Current Buckeye Jaxon Smith-Njigba placed tenth on Spielman's list, while former Ohio State star Garrett Wilson, now with the NFL's New York Jets, was ranked fourth.

Smith-Njigba also came in ahead of currently elite NFL wide receivers, AJ Brown, Deebo Samuel, DK Metcalf, and Jerry Jeudy, among others. Meanwhile, Wilson came on behind only Ja'Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson and CeeDee Lamb.

Smith-Njigba is one month away from hearing his name called during the NFL Draft in Kansas City, Missouri, marking the start of what many Scarlet and Gray supporters in Columbus and beyond hope is an illustrious professional career.

One reason Spielman agrees with them is Smith-Njigba's level of professionalism, saying he is "impressed with this kid's maturity as a player."

Another aspect of Smith-Njigba that Spielman is high on is his current success but room for improvement, using his time on CBS Sports' "With the First Pick" podcast that he could make an impact but also evolve beyond the traditional role of a slot receiver if needed.

As for Wilson, Spielman says the incoming NFL sophomore has yet to pique in the pros.

"I don't think this kid reached his ceiling yet and he's just getting better," Spielman said.

With Aaron Rodgers getting closer and closer to becoming an official member of the Jets, there is no telling how much more Wilson will grow in his second year in the league and beyond.

Wilson went tenth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.

It remains to be seen where Smith-Njigba will go, but wherever he is chosen, both he and his former teammate will undoubtedly carry on Ohio State's reputation at football's highest level.
