Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord threw his first touchdown of the season on their opening drive.

The Mount Laurel, New Jersey, native connected with high school teammate wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. for the 71-yard touchdown pass to give the Buckeyes a 7-0 lead over the Youngstown State Penguins. The touchdown connection was the pair's first while donning the scarlet and gray after torching the local Philadelphia high school football scene at St. Joseph's Prep.

Last week against the Indiana Hoosiers, he didn't find the end zone on 33 pass attempts. He went 20-for-33 for 239 yards with an interception.

He hit a wide-open Harrison in stride who strolled into the end zone, leaving nothing but a cloud of dust of Penguins defenders behind him.

The Buckeyes won the coin toss and elected to receive and the gamble paid off after just four plays and 76 yards.

Running back TreVeyon Henderson had a nine-yard carry on the first play of the game as well as a net of one yard after a downfield holding on Buckeyes center Carson Hinzman.

McCord's only other completion of the game was a swing pass to the flat, hitting wide receiver Xavier Johnson, who turned it up field for a five-yard gain.

So far, McCord is 2-for-2 for 76 yards and a touchdown.

The coaching staff plans to use both McCord and quarterback Devin Brown a little more evenly against Youngstown State. After the quick-hitting touchdown drive, McCord may see a little more action before Brown gets competitive snaps.
