Ohio State Buckeyes WR Marvin Harrison Jr. Named Semifinalist For Walter Camp Player Of The Year Award

Marvin Harrison Jr. could end up taking home one of college football's highest honors in 2023 after a dominant season in Columbus.

Another day, another potential award for Ohio State receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Harrison was named a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the committee announced Tuesday. The Walter Camp Award is given to the nation's top player.

Harrison remains a security blanket for Kyle McCord and the Buckeyes' offense entering their final game against Michigan. He's a pristine route-runner that remains a headache for defensive coordinators across the country.

Harrison makes the most of his time in the open field, even in limited touches. Last week in a 37-3 win over Minnesota, Harrison totaled a season-low in catches (3) and receving yards (30), but still found his way into the end zone on a 4-yard slant route in the third quarter.

This season, Harrison has recorded 62 receptions for 1,093 yards and 14 total touchdowns. The 6-4 junior needs one more 100-yard game to surpass David Boston as the all-time leader in 100-yard single-game performances in program history.

In 25 starts with the Buckeyes, Harrison has cemented himself as one of, if not the top pass-catcher in program history. He's totaled 150 receptions for 2,495 yards and 30 touchdowns during his three seasons at Ohio State. He's six touchdowns shy of surpassing Chris Olave as the all-time leader in receiving scores in program history.

Harrison remains in the thick of the Heisman Trophy race, alongside Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels and Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. According to BetMGM, the future first-round pick has the fourth-best odds (+3000) to win college football's highest individual honor.

Harrison, who was also named a semifinalist after totaling over 1,200 receiving yards last season, was one of 10 players named Walter Camp Player of the Year semifinalists. Others include Penix, Daniels, and Nix, along with Michigan running back Blake Corum, Georgia tight end Brock Bowers, Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II, UCLA defensive lineman Laiatu Latu, Texas defensive lineman T'Vondre Sweat, and Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis.

The Walter Camp Player of the Year Award is voted on by the 131 FBS head coaches and sports information directors. The award's three finalists will be announced on Nov. 28, and the 57th recipient of the Walter Camp Player of Year will be announced at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 7 in Bristol, CT. The award show will be televised on ESPN.
